Lessons
Online lessons
Private online lessons in violin, viola, cello, flute, and piano.
How it works
Three simple steps
- Tell me about you. Instrument, level, and what you want to work on.
- Introductory lesson. We meet online to see if it’s a fit and set expectations.
- Regular lessons. If we’re a match, we schedule a weekly time.
Openings
Online studio
I currently have openings for students of all ages. I have experience teaching students from age 3 through adult. If students are younger than 7, parent support is strongly encouraged so that they feel informed and able to help their children practice productively. Parents are always welcome to sit in. I am qualified to teach cello from beginner to conservatory level. I teach violin and viola through NYSSMA Level 5. I love figuring out individual students’ learning styles so that the lesson is tailored to a particular individual’s strengths and weaknesses.
- Cello — all ages, beginner through conservatory
- Violin, viola, flute, piano — beginner through intermediate
If you are looking for online lessons, please contact me. I like to set up an introductory lesson to discuss what you are looking for, and what I expect of my students. From there we can set up a regularly scheduled lesson.

Studio
Teaching since 1994
I have been teaching private lessons in my home on violin, viola, cello, flute, and piano since 1994. Currently I have an online private studio after teaching in Cleveland Heights for 10 years and in NYC for 11 years. Five of those years in NYC I also headed the string program, grades four through twelve, at The Packer Collegiate Institute. There I had the opportunity to lead and conduct the orchestras through two Carnegie Hall performances, prepare the groups for yearly United Nations performances, and coach and perform with the Chamber Strings group throughout Italy in 2010. Additionally, I did extensive curricular development for the string program at all levels covering note-reading, orchestral and chamber playing, theory, history, and diversity work, pulling music primarily from Irish, South African, Chinese, and Arabic traditions. I regularly compose and arrange my own teaching material in order to fit the teaching point specifically to the current students and interests at hand. My string students have competed in NYSSMA through Level 6 and attended All-State Festivals. My flute students have competed in NYSSMA Level 4, and piano Level 2. Previously I have taught at Berkeley Carroll School, Hunter College Elementary School, Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School, and at inner-city New York public schools through the Juilliard teaching outreach program. I hold an MM from The Juilliard School in Cello Performance and a BM from The Eastman School of Music in Cello and Composition.
Approach
Teaching philosophy
“The traditional classical music approach, Suzuki method, and folk music traditions from around the world influence my teaching. I am a strong proponent of note-reading if the student is already reading words. I am very open to modifying content to fit the interests and ability of the student.”
